SIS REPLACEMENT PROJECT: Demonstrations Scheduled for Week of Nov. 4 and 12

Planning continues related to replacing the University of Cincinnati’s student information system, known as UniverSIS.

Finalist information technology product suppliers and finalist implementation partners will be on campus the weeks of

Nov. 4

and of

Nov. 12

.

The campus community, most especially those units, offices and individuals who work with UniverSIS, are encouraged to attend demonstration sessions scheduled with the finalist software vendors, Ellucian, Inc., and Oracle Corporation, and with the finalist system implementers, ioConsulting, Inc., Ciber, Inc., and Ellucian, Inc.

NOVEMBER 4-6: PRESENTATIONS BY ORACLE, INC.
Monday, Nov. 4

• Student System Overview, 8 a.m.-noon, Monday, Nov. 4, Tangeman University Center Cinema.

• The afternoon of Monday, Nov. 4, (1-5 p.m.) will include focus sessions on recruiting, admission and relationship management (TUC Cinema) as well as student accounts (TUC, Room 417ABC).

• A focus session for UC students is set from 5:30-6:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 4, in the TUC Cinema.

Tuesday, Nov. 5

• Focus sessions on faculty needs (TUC Cinema), financial aid (Room 320, University Pavilion), transfer and articulation (TUC Cinema), and advancement relationship management (Room 504, University Hall) will run for varying time periods from 8 a.m.-noon

• A focus session on registration and records (Room 320, University Pavilion) and a technical focus session (Room 454, University Hall) will run from 1-5 p.m.

Wednesday, Nov. 6

• A focus session on end-user reporting (TUC Cinema) will run from 8-9 a.m.

• Focus sessions on One Stop (Room 320, University Pavilion), classroom and event scheduling (TUC Cinema) and student affairs (TUC Cinema) will run for varying time periods from 9:15-11:30 a.m.

• Focus sessions on advising, degree audit and retention management (Room 320, University Pavilion), institutional research (TUC Cinema) and housing and residence life (TUC Cinema)  will run for varying time periods from 1-5 p.m.

NOVEMBER 7: IMPLEMENTER PRESENTATIONS BY IOCONSULTING, INC., AND CIBER, INC.

• Ciber will present an overview from 1-3:30 p.m., TUC Cinema.

Friday, Nov. 15

• Implementer presentation by Ellucian will run from 8-11:30 a.m., Room 320, University Pavilion.

The student information system is the main tool that supports services for students. Students apply, register, receive advising, create academic plans, request and receive financial aid, monitor academic progress and more by using the SIS. Students begin to interact with the system as prospects and applicants to the university. They use it extensively while working toward degrees, and the engagement continues through their lives as alumni. In other words, the student information system is essential to the success of the university.

UC’s current homegrown SIS system went live nearly 15 years ago and now has aging architecture and programming language and will have been in use for nearly 20 years before a new SIS can be implemented. Thus, the current system cannot meet certain student and faculty/staff expectations related to 24/7 access and availability in support of learning, has limited self-service capabilities for many tasks that continue to require staff intervention, and does not easily integrate with other systems and advanced technology prevalent today.
