UC Clermont's Police Academy Recognized by The Shield Ohio

UC Clermont College’s Police Academy was recognized by The Shield Ohio as a platinum member for financial donations of $1,000 or more. The Shield’s mission is to provide emergency funds and resources to the families of officers in southwest Ohio who are critically injured or killed in the line of duty.

UC Clermont’s Police Academy Class 35 was presented a “Platinum Member” plaque and recognized by The Shield’s president, Reading Police Chief Scott Snow. The UC Clermont Police Academy remains the single largest source of support during the existence of The Shield with more than $11,000 contributed on its behalf. Both Police Academy Commander David Gregory and professor Ed Bridgman became Charter Members of The Shield during the early development of the organization and continue to provide leadership on campus for this worthy endeavor.

“We are very proud that our cadets have adopted this particular charity as their class project. We believe this positively connects them to the profession they have chosen for their futures as well as recognizing the profound comfort for the families of their fallen and injured colleagues this organization provides,” Bridgeman said.

The mission of The Shield Ohio is to develop and manage a charitable organization fund dedicated to provide immediate and long-term resources to families of Butler, Clermont, Hamilton and Warren County Peace Officers who are critically injured or killed in the line of duty. The long term goal of The Shield is to create a large fund which, through interest and equity, will remain in perpetuity to provide for the families of fallen police officers.

The Shield was created by members of the Hamilton County Police Chief’s Association during 2006 with initial $100 donations from 41 Police Chiefs, forming the Charter 100 Club. Additional “100 Club” members have been added from the ranks of police officers throughout the four counties through annual donations or payroll deduction, as well as fellow employees, friends, business partners and community organizations.
