University of Cincinnati Gains Funding in State Capital Process

University of Cincinnati President Santa Ono praised the state’s capital process as “fair, collaborative, and efficient for higher education in Ohio.”

He thanked both the Governor and members of the General Assembly for proposing and voting in favor of the following UC projects that will receive funding:

  • UC’s Medical Sciences Building - $28.8 million for renovation and expansion;
  • Health Professions Building/Wherry Hall renovation – $8 million for rehabilitation of the structure;
  • Muntz Hall (UC Blue Ash) -- $1 million for rehabilitation;
  • Walters Hall (UC Blue Ash) -- $1.17 million for roof restoration;
  • Edith Peters Jones & Snyder (UC Clermont) -- $1.75 million for mechanical & electrical infrastructure improvements.
In a letter to Governor Kasich, President Ono said, “Thank you for the support and confidence you placed in me and my colleagues as you reappointed the Ohio Higher Education Funding Commission to develop funding recommendations for the 2015-2016 capital funding bill.”

Ono also expressed his appreciation to members of the Ohio General Assembly and indicated that the process was fair, collaborative, and efficient for higher education in Ohio.

“The UC projects recommended for funding will largely address our deferred maintenance needs at several of our medical and research buildings,” Ono said.  “The needed renovation of the Medical Sciences Building as well as the Health Professions Building/Wherry Hall will benefit not only UC students, but also the Cincinnati community and contribute to the transfer of research technology to the business of health care.  The projects at our regional campuses will contribute to our overall efforts of energy efficiency and operational cost savings.”
