DAAP Student Wins Bowties for Scholarships Design Contest
We have a winner! Olivia Hiles, a student in the University of Cincinnatis College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning, was selected as the winner of UCs Bowties for Scholarships design contest by UC President Santa Ono and a panel of judges. Hiles design was selected from more than 90 entries. Hiles will receive a $500 gift card to the UC Bookstore and will be honored at a special luncheon in the fall of 2014.
"My design was inspired by the exterior of the Richard E. Lindner Athletic Center, an architectural staple of UC's campus," Hiles said about her submission, which features red and black triangles mirroring the windows of the athletic center.
Current UC students were challenged to create and enter a UC-inspired bowtie or scarf design into the Bowties for Scholarships contest which began on March 24 and ended April 7. The Bowties for Scholarships: Creating Possibilities campaign seeks to raise awareness and funds for unmet student need at UC. Hiles winning design will be produced as bowties and scarves and then sold to benefit the cause.
We had so many wonderful submissions from our talented students, but in the end, it came down to Hiles creativity and execution, said President Ono. I cant wait to proudly sport her bowtie design around campus!
Bowties and scarves reflecting the winning design will be available for sale in the fall of 2014 at select locations on and around campus. Proceeds will benefit UC scholarships. For more information, please visit uc.edu/bowtie.
