New Program Connects UC Blue Ash Alumni with Students

A new program at UC Blue Ash College brings alumni together with current students to provide guidance on succeeding in college, finding the right career, and landing that first job out of school.

A trial version of the UC Blue Ash Alumni Mentoring Program was conducted this spring and has been so successful the college plans to expand it by attracting more alumni and students to participate. Five alums worked with five students over the spring semester.

“This program gives you the chance to really make a huge impact on a young person at such an important time in their life,” said Josh Goode, local attorney, UC Blue Ash alumnus, and Chair of the UC Blue Ash Alumni Council.

The students meet with their mentor on a regular basis and attend specific events together, like the inaugural UC Blue Ash business etiquette dinner,

During the process students can learn more about planning for a career, networking, and interviewing for a job.

“The opportunities this program provides are amazing,” said Rasha AlSheyyab, a student who participated before graduating this spring from UC Blue Ash. “The connections you can make and the first-hand experiences you are able to get are just too good to miss.”

Rasha was paired with Kara Sanders, an alum of UC Blue Ash and the Craft Education Manager for Messer Construction. As part of her experience, Rasha job shadowed staff in the Communications Department at Messer, attended meetings with senior leadership, and visited a job site.

For Kara, working with Rasha was rewarding in more ways than she anticipated. “This has been a great way for me to give back to my college and help a young person in the process,” said Kara. “Rasha is outstanding. The program ended this spring but we still talk all the time, I want to continue mentoring her and helping with her professional goals.”
