New Graduate Student Trustee Named

Debra K. Burgess, a UC doctoral student in history, has been named by Ohio Gov. John Kasich as the university’s graduate student trustee. Student trustees do not vote but do serve on the university’s Board of Trustees to provide advice and insight.

 

A 2012 graduate of UC’s bachelor of arts program in history in the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences, Burgess is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She serves as a graduate teaching assistant/graduate research assistant. As the parent of five, including a 2009 graduate of UC, she lives in Terrace Park and is a non-traditional student. During her previous career, she worked for Jones Day as an administrator and paralegal from 1988 to 1992 and for Macy’s Inc. as a corporate legal assistant from 1992 to 1996 and then as executive assistant to the President from 1996 to 1997. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of Impact Autism Foundation.

 

Her term as trustee is August 5, 2014-May 13, 2016.

UC alum makes her mark in research, service

In 1960, as a young and eager statistician, Joan Reisch graduated from UC’s College of Arts and Sciences, and pursued a career in Texas at the Southwestern Medical Center where she’s held numerous roles as both faculty and staff. This year, Reisch was recognized for her career accomplishments and contributions with the Philanthropist of the Year Award by UC’s Alumni Association. This award is given to an alumnus who has been highly engaged in philanthropic activities with A&S, or has made a significant impact on the college.
