Campus Recreation s 'Rec Rewards' Program to Receive Continued Support from Human Resources

The university is committed to helping faculty and staff adopt healthy behaviors and lifestyles by offering many opportunities to maintain an optimal level of health and well-being.

Over the past year, Campus Recreation and Human Resources have worked together to develop and implement the

Rec Rewards program

. This wellness program continues to encourage health improvements – and therefore reduce employee healthcare costs – while reimbursing members as they exercise. After a six-month assessment, Human Resources sees the benefit of continuing to refund participants in 2015.

Due to the success of the Rec Rewards program, Human Resources is conducting a

wellness interest survey

. The results of the survey will be used to develop a comprehensive worksite wellness program. Follow the survey link to participate:

The

Rec Rewards program

is a reimbursement plan, designed to encourage health improvements across the university, with the added advantage of breaking down the cost barrier for employee memberships. Full-time, benefits-eligible UC employees can qualify for the reimbursement of more than two-thirds the cost of the monthly membership fee when they become Campus Recreation members. As an added benefit, employees can sign up now through December 31, 2014 and lock in a $30/month membership rate for one full year.

How the Rec Rewards program operates:

  • Make membership payments to Campus Recreation.
  • Check-in and workout on at least 8 different days during the month.
  • Get reimbursed $26.66 the following month.
  • Repeat.

Steps to get started and to maintain a place in the program:

  • Become a member by signing up at the Member Services desk at either the Campus Recreation Center or the Fitness Center at CARE/Crawley.
  • Complete an initial health assessment at the Campus Recreation Center or the Fitness Center at CARE/Crawley.
  • Get a follow-up health assessment annually.
