Get Your Teen Ready for a Summer Job with Lifeguarding Classes at UC Campus Recreation
This February and March, the Campus Recreation Center is offering the American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard Training Course. Since ARC certifications are recognized across the nation, those who complete the course can work anywhere in the country.
Course dates:
- Feb. 27 and March 6, 5 - 8:30 p.m.
- Feb. 28 and March 7, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
- March 1 and March 8, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
In accordance with ARC standards,
attendance at all six class dates (listed above) is mandatory
and participants must be at least 15 years old by the last day of class.
A skills pretest is required and will occur at 5 p.m. on Feb. 27.
According to Carol Wolkoff, aquatics assistant director at Campus Recreation, UCs American Red Cross training course participants who successfully complete the program will be certified in First Aid, Lifeguarding, CPR and AED use for two years. Any teenager, at least 15 years old by the last day of class on March 8, can sign up.
The lifeguard certification class will take place over two weekends at a very reasonable rate," said Wolkoff. "Other locations charge up to $100 more than our non-member price.

University of Cincinnati college is piloting a program to serve alumni of foster and kinship care

In 2025 the Ohio Reach Postsecondary designation was awarded to UC's College of Education, Criminal Justice, Human Services, and Information Technology (CECH) as part of the program's third cohort. The program recognizes and supports higher education institutions that have worked to make their campuses welcoming and accessible for students with a history in foster or kinship care. CECH will run a pilot program called Anchor Point aimed at wide-scale implementation across the campus in Fall 2026.
