Enhancements to UC Parking Systems Require Temporary Garage Closures Starting in June
Parking Services will begin construction on an updated parking access system and other improvements to campus garages in June. All UC garages will undergo construction, one at a time, which will include temporary lane closures and entry/exit re-routing. During these renovations, new gate equipment will be installed in all garages and access-controlled lots. The first garage to close for this work will be University Avenue Garage. Campus Green Garage will accept University Avenue Garage permit cards while that garage is closed.
Service Enhancements
The new equipment will include service enhancements for permit holders, departments, and visitors to the uptown West and East campuses.
- A new pay-on-foot system for cash parking will be implemented allowing cash to be used as a method of payment for parking and eliminating cash transactions at the exit.
- Beginning Fall Semester 2015, in garages with the new access system installed, an option will be offered to faculty, staff and students to buy a UC Fast Pass to enhance permit access to their garage.
- During spring semester 2016 the Bearcat Card IDs will become the primary access for students into parking garages. At that point, key cards/hang tags will no longer be distributed to students who purchase parking permits.
- New options for departments will be available for special parking requests.
Future communications will detail these processes and provide more information about each of these transitions as the implementation dates approach.
Payroll Deduction Improvements
As the new parking access system is put into service, the payroll deduction process will also be modified to improve the customer experience and create efficiencies in the system.
Beginning July 1, bi-weekly paid employees will now see the deduction on the last paycheck of the month instead of the first.
Also
beginning July 1, payroll deduction for monthly paid employees will cover parking costs for the same period as the check,
rather than the following month. To implement this change, there will be no payroll deduction on the June 30 paycheck.
