Play Ball! Dedication in Queensgate Thanks President Ono
President Santa J. Ono and wife Wendy Yip-Ono participated in the unveiling ceremony for the newly renovated Queensgate All-Star Field on July 9 in Cincinnati.
As part of the 2015 All-Star Game and its Legacy Effort, Major League Baseball and the Cincinnati Reds dedicated the renovations, which included upgrades to bleachers, dugouts, home run fencing, scoreboard and landscaping. The completed field will become the new home of the baseball team at Taft High School, a Cincinnati Public School.
The outfield fence at the refurbished diamond acknowledges President Ono and Wendy. Dr. Ono, in refusing a bonus from University of Cincinnatis Board of Trustees in June, recommended that the board instead allocate the $200,000 they slated for his bonus to UC and Cincinnati area causes. Among those was a $10,000 commitment to the Reds Community Fund. The Reds earmarked the funds for this project.
The Queensgate field was one among several Major League Baseball and Cincinnati Reds All-Star Game projects benefiting the community this year.
