UC Clermont Holds Woodland Trail Ribbon Cutting

UC Clermont College held a ribbon cutting to mark the opening of the Woodland Trail located on campus. The Woodland Trail completes Phase 1 of the new trail system on campus. The plan is to build four trails on the 92-acre campus that is rich with natural areas including a watershed area, streams and wetlands.

Funding for the Woodland Trail was provided by Interact for Health with a $50,000 grant. Other funding sources include: Humana Foundation, American Modern Insurance and Duke Energy.

“The Woodland Trail serves to connect students, faculty, staff and visitors to the natural resources on our park-like campus. We would like to thank Interact for Health for making this investment in our campus. We’ve already received positive feedback from our community – sharing how much they enjoy the new trail,” said Dean Jeff Bauer.

The trail also offers the college an opportunity to identify and mark key trees plants along the Woodland Trail and creates a safe walking link between west parking lot, entry road and south lot area. An additional benefit is connecting the college with the neighboring Southwest Ohio Development Center (SODC) linking the trail to SODC’s  half-mile paved wooded trail.

Future phases of the Trail System include:

•  Trail to access the East edge features that include waterfall area, watershed stream and remote edge forest features.

•  Trail to access the west side open forest space and watershed stream.

•  Trail to connect walkers/hikers with wetlands space.

•  Signage to identify plant and functional components of the wetlands area.
