UC Clermont Hosts Oct. 21 Panel, Documentary for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

UC Clermont College is teaming up with local victim advocacy organizations to hold a screening of the HBO award-winning documentary

and panel discussion on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place from 2-4 p.m. in the Snyder Building, room 142.

UC graduate Cynthia Hill is director of the feature-length documentary, which explores a simple, but deeply disturbing fact of American life: the most dangerous place for a woman in America is her own home. Every day in the US, at least four women are murdered by abusive (and often, ex-) partners. The knee-jerk response is to ask: “why doesn’t she just leave?”

A panel discussion following the screening will address the importance of a "coordinated community response to domestic violence," said Wanda McCarthy, an associate professor of psychology.  Other panelists include Jill Gomez, an assistant professor and area coordinator for social work; Amber Malott, YWCA Rural Program manager; Jennifer Sitler, of the YWCA House of Peace; and Stephanie Ross, from the Clermont County Prosecutor's office. 

The event is sponsored by the UC Clermont College Dean’s Office and Psychology program in partnership with the YWCA of Greater Cincinnati and the Clermont County Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Task Force.
