UC Ranks Among Top 165 Global Universities in Scientific Research
The University of Cincinnati ranks among the worlds top 165 research universities, according to a
recent ranking of universities based on the performance of scientific papers.
In some areas, the university stands even higher - No. 59 in the world in civil engineering (ranked above Yale, Duke, Harvard, Ohio State, Northwestern University), No. 99 in clinical medicine, No. 131 in life sciences, and No. 159 in mechanical engineering.
What is interesting about this ranking is that is based on performance rather than peer surveys and reputation, said UC President Santa J. Ono. Its a tangible measure of the global impact of our world-class faculty.
UC also ranks among the worlds top 200 global universities, according to a ranking by U.S. News & World Report.
The ranking by National Taiwan University (NTU), released on Oct. 9, is based on quality and quantity indicators in the performance of scientific papers and does not assess university performance in teaching, research and administration. NTU uses bibliometric methods for its analysis and ranking, drawing data from Essential Science Indicators (ESI), the Web of Science Core Collection (WOS) and Journal Citation Reports (JCR).
The overall indicators used include: number of articles in the last 11 years, number of articles in the current year, number of citations in the last 11 years, number of citations in the last two years, average number of citations in the last 11 years, an h-index of the last two years, number of highly cited papers, and number of articles in the current year in high-impact journals.
