CEAS-CAECM Students Triumph Gold, Silver and Bronze Honors
The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering and Construction Management (CAECM) students are all members of the Construction Competition Club, a subgroup of the Construction Student Association.
At the 2015 ASC Estimating Competition, students divide amongst four competition categories, including: 1) Heavy Highway Regional, 2) Commercial Construction Regional, 3) Electrical National, and 4) Preconstruction National. Each category is assigned a real corporate sponsor who provides information on a real-world construction project located around the country. From there, the teams have 24 hours to devise a plan, submit a project proposal and present their final product to a panel of judges.
UCs commercial construction teams captainsenior construction management student, Matt Morgannkept the teams morale high as they prospered through the fast-paced competition. The teams corporate sponsor, The Walsh Group, assigned this categorys teams with the task of developing a proposal for a real-world senior living facility.
Morgann proves his knack for time management and leadership skills under time constraints, a crucial skill in the construction management industry. He reflects, Before we arrived in Chicago, the team and I strategized our areas of strengths and divided up our individual roles. Luckily, many of the team members had prior experience in developing proposals through our co-op rotations.
