Gold Humanism Honor Society Inducts Class of 2017
The College of Medicine's Gold Humanism Honor Society Chapter, sponsored by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, inducted the GHHS class of 2017 and presented several humanism awards to residents and faculty at its annual dinner, Wednesday, May 4, at the Cincinnati Faculty Club in the Richard E. Lindner Center.
Alan George Smulian, MD, director and professor in the UC Division of Infectious Diseases, gave the evening's keynote address. Dr. George Deepe introduced Smulian as the 2016 Leonard Tow Faculty Award recipient, which recognizes a College of Medicine faculty member who best demonstrates outstanding compassion in the delivery of care, as well as clinical excellence. The actual award is presented annually at the Honors Day ceremony on May 28, 2016.
Fourth-year medical student, Craig Joseph Henson, IV, is the Leonard Tow student awardee this year.
Twenty-five, third-year medical students were inducted at the ceremony: Brett Athans, Ellen Farr, Lindsay Gallagher, Marcus Germany, Farah Dadabhoy, Stephen Firkins, Christian Gausvik, Radhika Grandhi, Kathryn Havard, Zuri Hemphill, Kiefer Hock, Arjan Hura, Sheheryar Jamali, Luke Lewis, Matthew Maksimoski, Molly McDonough, Shama Milon, Aneela Reddy, Lisa Rickey, Laura Schapiro, John Shabosky, Michael Turgeon, Jessica Wallace, Trisha Wladecki and David Youssef.
All students were nominated by their peers and faculty as students who best exemplify integrity, compassion, altruism, respect, empathy and a dedication to service.
Finally, the society recognized five residents with the Arnold P. Gold Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Awards this year:

- Charles Mitchell, DO, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
- Joshua Kuethe, MD, General Surgery
- Jeffrey Sutton, MD, General Surgery
- Alexander Cortez, MD, General Surgery

Celebrating the newest Bearcats on Decision Day
