Need Canopy Help? Meet the CEeL's New Trainer
Joey Lyon focuses on training and professional development surrounding the University of Cincinnati's Canopy Tools, including: Blackboard, Kaltura, Echo360, WebEx and more.
Lyon offers face-to-face as well as remote training opportunities. This varied approach allows faculty, and students to access materials at times that are convenient to them. In addition to planning and facilitating these training sessions and resources, Lyon works closely with other teams in UC's CEeL and various colleges, units, and campuses.
Before taking this position, Lyon worked with Learning Technology Support team. This gave me an intimate look at the kinds of technical and pedagogical issues that facultyand students were experiencing on a day-to-day basis, Lyon explained. This, coupled with my knowledge of the Canopy toolset, allows me to tailor the sessions I offer to areas that will affect the largest number of faculty, staff, and students possible.
Lyon has been meeting with colleges, units and campuses to gauge what unique needs each might have, while also discovering any common ground. This approach has allowed me to host sessions within colleges in addition to centralized training workshops, Lyon said. This maximizes the effectiveness of each offering. Holding sessions in a specific college allows Lyon to bring like-minded faculty together on topics that are tailored specifically to their skill-levels, skill-sets, and pedagogical needs, he says.
These trainings and Canopy workshops are available in several modes:
1. Scheduled face-to-face workshops
Register for in-person workshops on Faculty OneStop.
2. Special face-to-face workshops
If you have a Canopy tool training need, we can schedule it in your location and invite just your department, or make it available university-wide.
3. Just-in-time, self-study materials
For each Canopy tool we are developing a recommended sequence of Knowledge Base articles which will walk you through basic tool use. Additional training sequences are being developed and revised to offer even more support.
