UC Clermont receives IT grant from Duke Energy

Duke Energy awarded nearly $600,000 to grantees throughout Greater Cincinnati during the 2018 K-Career Grant Recipients Ohio and Kentucky award ceremony on May 22, including $10,000 to UC Clermont College for Information Technology program virtualization.
The project focuses on the creation of a cloud-based computer lab environment, including a virtual computer hardware platform, storage devices and computer network resources that can be accessed from anywhere using any device. Each virtual desktop would have access to all the licensed software that could be found in a campus lab, making the program more flexible to changing technology needs (easier to update) and providing more control to faculty members over the technology needs of students.
Granted funds will cover part of the cost of virtualization for current IT classes, provide access to virtualized environments for students and enable the program to increase online class offerings.
"Virtualization would help the UCCIT program offer technology-intensive courses online, reaching more people within and beyond Clermont County, and making classes accessible 24/7 to working students and students otherwise not able to travel to campus," said Professor Karen Lankisch, chair of the college's Business, Law and Technology Department. "In addition, virtualization would make it possible to offer the entire associate degree program online, expanding the number and types of students who could take courses."
