Summer Graduates to be Celebrated at UC's Aug. 3 Commencement

The University of Cincinnati will confer 2,055 degrees to 2,047 students during its Summer Commencement ceremony Aug. 3 at 2 p.m. 

This summer's Commencement ceremony will be the last held in BB&T Arena, located on the campus of Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky, because of the ongoing renovation of Fifth Third Arena. The Commencement exercises will include the conferring of bachelor's and associate's degrees, master's recognition and doctoral hooding ceremonies, and are expected to last between two and three hours. Doors open at 1 p.m., one hour prior to the ceremonies. 

ABOUT THE GRADUATES 

The Summer 2018 graduating class of 2,047 students hails from 52 different countries. Among American graduates, 45 states and the District of Columbia are represented. Nearly two-thirds of the class (60.3 percent) originates from Ohio, and 68 of Ohio’s 88 counties are represented. This year’s summer class is 5.4 percent larger than the Summer 2017 graduating class (1,943). 

More than half of the Summer 2018 class will receive graduate degrees, including 989 master’s degrees and 162 doctoral degrees. More than half of all degrees to be conferred are in STEMM fields (57.1 percent). Nearly a third of all graduates participated in distance-learning programs (655). 

Nearly 14 percent of graduates — 284 — are first-generation college students. The average age of all graduates is 28.9, with students as young as 18 and as old as 75. 

CEREMONY DETAILS

This is a ticketed event. All students should have reserved tickets for family and guests. Graduate check-in will take place in BB&T’s “Vault lounge,” with line-up in the conference rooms.

Details on parking and directions to BB&T. Nunn Drive near the primary entrance is often congested with traffic. Please plan accordingly and seek alternative entrances/exits.

University of Cincinnati college is piloting a program to serve alumni of foster and kinship care

In 2025 the Ohio Reach Postsecondary designation was awarded to UC's College of Education, Criminal Justice, Human Services, and Information Technology (CECH) as part of the program's third cohort. The program recognizes and supports higher education institutions that have worked to make their campuses welcoming and accessible for students with a history in foster or kinship care. CECH will run a pilot program called Anchor Point aimed at wide-scale implementation across the campus in Fall 2026.
