UC College of Nursing Announces New Scholarship for Graduate Program
The UC College of Nursing announces the availability of a new scholarship for a full-time student in the Womens Health Graduate Nursing Program. This scholarship has been fully funded by the National Speaking of Womens Health (SWH) Foundation. Led by Dianne Dunkelman, founder and president, the SWH Foundation will award one full scholarship award to a graduate nursing student in the Womens Health program at UC. This scholarship represents a wonderful opportunity to combine the educational mission of both SWH and the College of Nursing, said Dunkelman.
Since the mission of Speaking of Womens Health is dedicated to educating women to make informed decisions about their health, well-being, and personal safety it is only logical the Womens Health graduate program at the College of Nursing should be targeted for this award, commented Marcia Hern, EdD, RN, department chair for Parent Child Health Nursing in the UC College of Nursing. We are thrilled that one of our students will be the beneficiary of SWHs commitment to improve health care for women of all ages.
Graduate nursing students who complete a masters degree in womens health are prepared as advanced practice nurses to provide comprehensive womens gynecologic and primary health care to women of all ages in clinics, physician offices or hospitals.
Graduate nursing students who are interested in applying for this scholarship should submit a letter of interest describing their demonstrated commitment to womens health through clinical practice and service, focus on prevention and education of womens health issues and improvement of their own personal/professional circumstances. The student must be a full-time student currently enrolled in the five-quarter program or a newly admitted full-time student who will begin the program Fall 2003.
The recipient will be recognized at the annual Speaking of Womens Health 2003 conference, March 12-16, 2003 at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center and will attend the College of Nursing Annual Scholarship dinner.
Questions and applications should be addressed to Marcia Hern, EdD, RN, Department Head, Parent Child Health Nursing, (513) 558-5215 or
. Applications are due February 12, 2003.
