UC Surgeons Expand Expertise with New Faculty
The UC Department of Surgery has recruited five faculty members with expertise in oncology, thoracic, transplant and colorectal surgery.
Our department invests in the technology and brainpower necessary to provide the absolute best specialty surgical care to our patients and our community, said Jeffrey Matthews, MD, chairman of the department.
The five additions are:
- Bradley Davis, MD, colorectal surgeon from Tufts University
- David OBrien, MD, colorectal surgeon from Cleveland Clinic Foundation
- Jennifer Manders, MD, surgical oncologist from Northwestern University
- Sandra Starnes, MD, thoracic surgery from Indiana University
- Amit Tevar, MD, transplant surgeon from UC
The five surgeons join a staff of nearly 100 clinical and research faculty practicing in 15 divisions.
We are especially pleased that our new surgical staff have chosen to complete highly specialized and respected fellowship programs beyond their general surgical training, said Dr. Matthews. This expansion strengthens our existing team and allows us to provide advanced care to patients with colon, throat, breast and lung cancers.
Drs. OBrien and Davis perform minimally invasive surgery to treat disease in the rectum and colon. Dr. Manders joins UC with extensive expertise in diseases of the breast. Dr. Starnes specializes in tumors located in the upper chest cavity. Dr. Tevars skills center on kidney and liver transplantation.
The UC College of Medicines Department of Surgery ranks nationally in the top 30 in research funding from the National Institutes of Health.
