'Healthy Minds' Forum at UC May 1

CINCINNATI—The University of Cincinnati (UC) Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience will join 43 other institutions across the United States and Canada in holding a free forum Saturday, May 1, to discuss emerging treatments in mental health.

The forums are being held in partnership with NARSAD, a leading charity devoted to research in mental health.

NARSAD was previously known as the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression but has broadened its mission to support research in childhood psychiatric disorders, bipolar disorder and anxiety disorders as well as schizophrenia and depression.
To date, NARSAD has given nearly $1.7 million via 27 grants to 20 researchers affiliated with UC.

UC’s forum will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at 260 Stetson St., Room 2108, on the medical campus.

The "Healthy Minds Across America" forums coincide with the beginning of Mental Health Awareness Month in May.

Topics to be covered at the UC forum are:

  • Children at Risk for Bipolar Disorder: A Window of Opportunity

  • Neurophysiology of Bipolar Disorder: Recent Findings

  • Integrating Neuroimaging and Treatment in Bipolar Disorder: Moving Toward Personalized Treatment
