Two UC Faculty Appointed to UC Health Leadership Positions

CINCINNATI—University of Cincinnati College of Medicine faculty members Kevin Joseph, MD, and Michael Edwards, MD, have been appointed to UC Health leadership positions.

Joseph, an assistant professor of emergency medicine, has been named chief executive officer of West Chester Hospital and senior vice president of UC Health. Joseph has been serving as interim president of West Chester Hospital since May.

"Dr. Joseph is a natural leader and a gifted physician. He has done a remarkable job leading West Chester Hospital and has had a critical role in the hospital’s development since the earliest stages of its planning and opening last year. This appointment recognizes the significant contributions he has made to West Chester Hospital,” said James Kingsbury, UC Health president and chief executive officer.

Joseph previously served as the director of emergency services at West Chester Hospital. He received his medical degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and completed an emergency medicine residency at the UC College of Medicine. Joseph also serves as medical director for the Cincinnati Police Department SWAT team and the Crosby Township Emergency Medical Service.

Edwards, Christian R. Holmes Professor and chair of surgery, has been named vice president, system development at UC Health.

In this newly created position, Edwards will assist with the formation, development and integration of UC Health both internally and externally. Initially he will have a key role in the selection, planning and rollout of UC Health’s new IT/HIS system. He will also assist with the study and implementation of the integration of UC Physicians with UC Health, and on the development of the system’s strategic plan. As this will be a part-time position, Edwards will continue in his roles of chair of surgery and surgeon in chief of UC Health University Hospital.

"Dr. Edwards' knowledge and experience in academic medicine will be critical as we form UC Health and begin implementing key strategic initiatives that will position us strongly in the market. I am delighted that he has agreed to serve on my leadership team,” Kingsbury said.
