The appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2012, pending UC Board of Trustees approval.
"The strength and rich history of UCs College of Nursing no doubt contributed to our ability to recruit someone of Dr. Glazers caliber, said Santa Ono, PhD, UC senior vice president for academic affairs and provost. "Im confident that Dr. Glazers nursing, administrative and research expertise will be a great addition to the college and the university as a whole. Glazers administrative responsibilities in Massachusetts have included service or chairmanship on a number of committees, including the University Strategic Plan Implementation Design Team, the Chancellors Strategic Planning Taskforce, Academic and Enrollment Planning Subcommittee and the Provost Search Committee, among many others. "I cant wait to join this vibrant community under the leadership of the visionary Provost and President, says says Glazer, adding, "With the passage of the Health Care Affordability Act and the Institute of Medicine/Robert Wood Johnson Report on the Future of Nursing, I cant think of a better time to lead such an outstanding College of Nursing in curricular innovation, increased mulitidisciplinary and transdisciplinary research, community and global outreach, interprofessional education, and academic service partnership."

Founded in 1889, UCs College of Nursing offered one of the first baccalaureate programs in nursing in the United States, and received the first endowment given to a nursing program. Dr. Glazer will become UCs 7th nursing dean and 14th senior leader of the college, which was led for its first 51 years by a superintendent or director. In 2002 the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited the college for a 10-year period, distinguishing it with 71 years of continuous accreditation.
