Focus On Medical Staff With Bridie Orr, UC Health Surgery

A member of the UC Health-University of Cincinnati Physicians team since February 2011, Bridie Orr serves as the clinical manager for surgery at the UC Health Physicians Office in Clifton. She holds a bachelor’s of science in industrial management and a master’s in business administration from the University of Cincinnati.

Tell us about your core job responsibilities as clinical manager.
"I am responsible for ensuring quality customer service for six surgical divisions—urology, general surgery, transplant, colorectal, thoracic and vascular—and oversee a staff of 26 medical secretaries, nurses, call center and front desk staff. I am also charged with making sure that the office meets or exceeds medical regulations and standards. This includes identifying and improving processes that will help us reach maximum efficiency in operations and customer service."

What do you enjoy about your job and working at UC Health-University of Cincinnati Physicians?
"I enjoy that every day is different and brings new challenges. I am constantly learning about the company and how to run a medical practice successfully. I am thankful that I have a manager who believes in my abilities, that I am able to have autonomy and make decisions within my office."

Are there any projects that you or your team have worked on that you are especially proud of?
"Six months ago, Mary Lillie, our call center supervisor, and I launched a centralized scheduling center for surgery. We established processes and standard operating procedures for call center flow. We had to sell this concept to our doctors because their medical secretaries could no longer schedule their appointments for them. It’s been quite successful and other divisions are now modeling their call centers after ours. We’re proud of the end result because we are able to give our patients easier, more efficient access to care."

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
"I enjoy spending time with my husband, exercising, shopping and working on projects around her home."

UC students organize free health clinic in community
