Fant Named Interim College of Pharmacy Dean

Today is National Pharmacist Day, which honors pharmacists everywhere and recognizes their important role in medical care. It seems fitting then that today we also welcome William Fant, PharmD, to his new role as interim dean of UC’s James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy.

Fant has been on faculty at the college for over 25 years and most recently served as the associate dean of academic affairs there. He follows former Dean Daniel Acosta, who served as dean for 15 years.  

"The college has an excellent faculty dedicated to the education, training and professional development of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists, capable of meeting the health care needs of our increasingly diverse population,” says Fant whose first official day as interim dean was Jan. 1, 2012. 

He will hold the position until 2013, while implementing a new strategic plan for the college, overseeing accreditation in 2013 and facilitating the search for a new dean.  
   
"The faculty, with input from our students and practice and research partners, recently approved a new strategic plan that aligns closely with UC2019. This plan establishes a foundation upon which the college will strengthen and expand our educational, research, community service and practice partnerships over the next several years,” he says.   

Just as National Pharmacist Day recognizes the important role of the pharmacist, we ask that if you are in a pharmacy today make sure you wish your pharmacist a good day … and if you see Dr. Fant, maybe shake his hand in congratulations as well.
