Hematology Oncology Moves Into New West Chester Space
UC Health Hematology Oncology has relocated and expanded its outpatient care and infusion services on the West Chester medical campus. The new spacelocated at 7626 University Drive, Suite 201, adjacent to West Chester Hospitalgives referring physicians and patients from Northern Cincinnati communities more convenient access to comprehensive cancer care.
"Physician input was considered in every aspect of developing the new space, from the physical design to patient flow and the overall ambiance, says Tahir Latif, MD, director of outpatient infusion services for UC Health University of Cincinnati Physicians, associate professor and medical director for the UC College of Medicines hematology oncology division. "We are excited to offer the same robust portfolio of cancer clinical trials and multidisciplinary team approach to cancer care to all Greater Cincinnati patients, regardless of whether they live closer to the river or Dayton,
The UC Health-based medical oncology team also provides care at the Barrett Center in Clifton, across from University Hospital.
In the past two years, the entire multidisciplinary cancer team has expanded its presence in the West Chester area, particularly in medical and surgical oncology, the latter of which now offers procedures at both the University Pointe Surgical Hospital and West Chester Hospital.
The new hematology oncology facility is accredited to provide on-site chemotherapy drug mixing to avoid delays in transporting treatment medications between facilities. Staff also have the ability to perform complete blood counts and full metabolic panel blood tests onsite, providing results within minutes. Imaging studies can be done same-day in radiology on the West Chester medical campus.
"All of these factors come together to expedite care for our patients during what is a stressful and time-intensive process. Anything we can do to reduce that burden and improve our patients treatment experience is so important, adds George Atweh, director of the UC Cancer Institute and Koch professor at the College of Medicine.
