Allied Health Completes OPERATION CAHS

Students, staff and faculty at UC’s College of Allied Health Sciences tackled "Operation CAHS: Collecting and Helping Soldiers” last week as a way to give back to members of the U.S. military.

About 75 members of faculty and staff donated items for military care packages, which were then assembled by students at the college’s fall retreat.

The packages were mailed to nine members of the military in Afghanistan, including family members of the college’s faculty and staff.

"We all wanted to give back to the men and women who serve us every day,” says first-year doctorate of physical therapy student Christopher Jaymes, who helped assemble the packages. "They sacrifice so much for us each day and we want them to know that we appreciate their service to Americans.”

The project was the idea of Rose Smith, DPT, associate professor of clinical rehabilitation sciences.

"Several years ago I helped our physical therapy assisting students organize this same type of project,” says Smith. "At that time, both of my nephews were active-duty soldiers in Iraq. I know the joy these packages bring at roll call when they are received by the soldiers. Even though we are in Afghanistan this time and not in Iraq, we still want to give back.”
