Pilot Research Projects Symposium Highlights Environmental Health Research

Scientists will discuss the latest occupational and environmental health research at the University of Cincinnati Education and Research Center’s 13th annual Pilot Research Project Symposium on Thursday, Oct. 4 from 1 to 5 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 from 8 to 11:45 a.m.  

The symposium is free and open to public and will take place in  Room E-351 of the Medical Sciences Building at the UC College of Medicine.

Led by Amit Bhattacharya, PhD, professor of environmental health, the Pilot Research Project seeks to increase the Tristate’s research capacity through collaboration with 12 universities and colleges. The program offers financial support to doctoral students and junior faculty with promising research ideas. 

During the conference, the previous year’s research award winners will present their results and 2012–2013 award winners will display poster presentations of their proposed work. 

Linda McCauley, professor and dean of the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing and professor of Environmental Health at Emory University, Atlanta, will speak on the topic of "Female Agricultural Workers: Ergonomic Hazards, Heat Stress and Pesticide Exposures” during a keynote address on Oct. 4 at 1 p.m.  

Carol Rice, PhD, emerita professor of environmental health at UC will give the keynote address on Oct. 5 at 8 a.m. on "Retrospective Exposure Assessment: Making the Best Exposure Estimate Possible with Sparse Data.”

Continuing education units are available.
