Public Breast Cancer Reception Slated for Oct. 25, 2012

CINCINNATI—In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the University of Cincinnati (UC) Cancer Institute is hosting a reception and breast cancer information fair on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012.

Free and open to the public, the event will take place at the UC Health Barrett Center, 234 Goodman St., from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the second-floor lobby. 

Guests will hear from physician speakers and breast cancer survivors as well as have access to materials highlighting breast cancer risk factors, treatment options and community resources. Informational sessions include: 

• What is Breast Cancer? (6:30 to 6:45 p.m.) 
  Presented by Elizabeth Shaughnessy, MD, PhD, UC Health surgical oncologist and UC College of Medicine professor 

• Breast Imaging Update (6:45 to 7 p.m.) 
  Presented by Amy Argus, MD, UC Health radiologist and UC College of Medicine assistant professor

• Breast Cancer Survivor Testimony (7 to 7:15 p.m.)
  A local woman shares her personal story about breast cancer and her treatment experience at the UC Health Barrett Center with the multidisciplinary UC Cancer Institute breast cancer team
  
  
• Communication Resources (7:15 to 7:30 p.m.) 
  Presented by Amy Weber of the Komen Foundation 

Raffles and refreshments are also available. Guests are encouraged to wear pink to show their support in the fight against breast cancer. 

The Barrett Center is the adult outpatient care facility of the University of Cincinnati Cancer Institute, one of four UC and UC Health centers of excellence.
