Winners Announced for Graduate Student Research Forum
The 33rd annual Graduate Student Research Forum was held on Friday, Nov. 9. Eighty-one posters were presented by graduate students in the College of Medicine.
The winners this year are:
First Place: Erin Wissing, molecular genetics, biochemistry and microbiology.
Second Place: Mary Lee, molecular & developmental biology, and Ashley Reyer, molecular genetics, biochemistry and microbiology.
Third Place: Melinda Engevik, systems biology and physiology, and Shatrunjai Singh, molecular and developmental biology.
Honorable Mentions: Jessica Donnelly, systems biology and physiology; Meaghan Waltmann, pathobiology and molecular medicine; Kayleigh MacMaster, molecular genetics, biochemistry and microbiology; Swati Tiwari, molecular genetics, biochemistry and microbiology; Allie Adams, cancer biology; Kyle Bendar, immunobiology; Joseph Korfhagen, neuroscience; Nassif Tabaja, molecular genetics, biochemistry and microbiology.
The winner of this years Richard Akeson Excellence in Teaching Award is Marshall Montrose, PhD, chair, molecular and cellular physiology, and interim chair, pharmacology and cell biophysics.
Keynote speakers for the event were Jennifer Chang and Beylah Redke, both from the Myelin Repair Foundation.

Local couple uses royalties from children's books to give gifts to kids in need

A local couple has found a unique way to give back to those in need this holiday season. Vic and Laura Troha wrote two children's books together, and this year, they are using the proceeds to buy Christmas gifts for Hamilton County foster kids. The couple are both graduates of the University of Cincinnati's College of Allied Health Sciences and met the day they graduated.
