Evelyn Hess, MD, Portrait Unveiled

Evelyn Hess, MD, professor emerita and founder of the UC College of Medicine’s immunology, allergy and rheumatology division in 1964 (serving as its director for 31 years), was honored Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, with a portrait unveiling.

Hess has had a distinguished research career focused across the broad spectrum of immunological and rheumatic diseases, with particular success in the area of drug-related lupus, autoimmune phenomena in AIDS, reproductive immunology and osteoarthritis. She is a 2001 recipient of the College of Medicine’s Daniel Drake Medal—the highest honor bestowed by the college.

The Evelyn V. Hess Chair for Lupus Research has been established in Hess’ name and, when fully endowed, will be used to attract an outstanding investigator to lead UC’s lupus program.
