Social Work Students Compete, Share with Food Drive

After a four-week campaign, students from the Bearcat Social Work Student Organization dropped off boxes of food and personal care items to local nonprofits Mercy Franciscan at St. John’s and the Drop Inn Center Tuesday, Dec. 11.

The group of 35-40 undergraduate social work majors created a competition among their first-year, sophomore, junior and senior classes to donate the most food and personal care items for the drive (the seniors won).

President Pete Freudenberger said the group had taken on hunger as its agenda for both service and educational activities this semester.

It supported Mercy Franciscan because vice president Samantha Manning is conducting her field placement there, and added personal care items to the drive upon learning it was the area of most need for the Drop Inn Center’s clients.
