UC Graduates, Faculty Fill 2013 'Top Doctors' List

Cincinnati Magazine’s  2013 "Top Doctors” survey includes the names of hundreds of College of Medicine faculty, graduates and past residents and fellows.

Printed in the January 2013 issue, the list totals 750 physicians who are "part of the innovative medical community we’re lucky enough to have around us.” Several current faculty also were highlighted in sidebar articles, including Christopher McPherson, MD, and John Tew, MD, from the department of neurosurgery; Sid Khosla, MD, department of otolaryngology; J. Michael Smith, MD, department of surgery; and Frank McCormack, MD, internal medicine.

Of those listed, 54 percent are affiliated with the College of Medicine, 25 percent (or 187 physicians) graduated from the College of Medicine, 32 percent (237) had been a UC resident or fellow and 23 percent (170) are current faculty members. Twenty-nine of those listed graduated from the College of Medicine, completed a residency or fellowship here and are now on faculty.

The list was compiled from surveys the magazine sent to more than 5,000 physicians in an eight-county area surrounding Cincinnati. Doctors were asked whom they would turn to if "you, a family member or a friend needed medical attention.” The 750 doctors named received at least five mentions and are grouped into 43 specialties.
