Submissions Open for the College of Medicine Art Exhibit

The College of Medicine Fine Arts in Medicine Club is seeking submissions for the inaugural UC College of Medicine Art Exhibit, to be held Wednesday, April 10.

The club is looking for submissions from College of Medicine students, residents, faculty and staff. Sculptures, pottery, jewelry, weavings, graphic design, film, etc. are all welcome. 

The exhibit will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, in the CARE/Crawley atrium, with an opening reception from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The reception will include food, music and a raffle benefitting the IvaDean Scholarship fund.

Claire Seguin, a first year medical student and member of the club, hopes the exhibit will encourage medical students to make time for creative pursuits, as well as encourage more science-minded attendees to explore a different, more right-brained viewpoint.

Seguin, a painter and screen-printer, says art has always created a balance in her life between her analytic personality and her creative one.

"We are all pressed for time and sometimes creating art gets pushed to the back burner," she says. "I think the art exhibit is a good means of encouragement because it sets a goal to work towards and it is an opportunity to receive feedback."

"I know there are artists among us who work as program coordinators, research assistants, physicians and custodians,” she adds. "I think it is important for the college community to recognize the creative brilliance in each other." 

If you are interested in exhibiting work, email Seguin at seguincm@mail.uc.edu by Monday, March 18.

Include in the email:

  • Your name.
  • Title/department.
  • What you will be submitting (number of pieces and type of art).
  • Any special display needs you might need (for example, a television and DVD player for your film or a large table for a large statue).

Submissions should be ready for display Monday, April 8. Pieces of hanging art will need to be mounted or framed in a way so they may be hung without damage.

UC students organize free health clinic in community
