Weiss Elected Fellow in American Academy of Microbiology
Alison Weiss, PhD, a professor in the Department of Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry and Microbiology, has been elected a Fellow in the American Academy of Microbiology. Fellows are members of the academy, which is the honorific leadership group within the American Society for Microbiology (ASM).
The mission of the academy is to recognize scientists for outstanding contributions to microbiology and provide microbiological expertise in the service of science and the public.
Weiss research focuses on the interaction of bacterial virulence factors with immune defenses, with a strong emphasis on the role of bacterial toxins. She will be recognized May 21, 2013, at the Academy Fellows Luncheon and Meeting at the 113th annual ASM General Meeting in Denver.

The University of Cincinnati and UC Health are launching the Center for Alzheimer's and Neurodegenerative Diseases Research (CANDR) to advance dementia research, clinical care and brain health education.
