Medical Students Pie Their Professors

They may have wanted to do this all year—but, this week, College of Medicine students finally got their chance to ‘pie’ a professor.

Hosted by UC’s student chapter of the American Medical Association, the second annual "Pie-A-Prof” event took place in the CARE/Crawley atrium Wednesday, April 24.

Before the event, students bid on which five professors they’d most like to see with pie on their face. The lucky chances to throw the pies were raffled off to students and, this year, staff.

The pie’d professors were professor and director of medical education Bruce Giffin, PhD; professor of medical education D.J. Lowrie, PhD; assistant professor Aaron Marshall; associate professor of medical education David Pettigrew, PhD; and Michael Lieberman, PhD, professor of molecular genetics

"It wasn’t that bad,” says Lowrie. "There are people who whine about it—they’re wimps.”

Finally clean from the whipped-cream covered scrubs, Giffin was already ready for the next Pie-A-Prof.

"This was my second year participating and, god willing, I’m looking forward to my third.”

Proceeds from the event will support AMA activities throughout the school year, including the annual Casino Night charity event, the Physician Meet-and-Greet and the M4 Meet-and-Greet.
