Allied Health Sciences Launches Online Health Informatics Master's Program
CINCINNATIUC's College of Allied Health Sciences is launching a new online masters program in Health Informatics beginning in the 2013-2014 academic year.
Courses will be taught by faculty at the College of Allied Health Sciences and UCs Carl H. Lindner College of Business. The 12-course program is offered in two online-based: a one-year accelerated program or a two-year part-time program.
"Health care reform has shifted our national focus to patient care, cost, population health and innovative systems, says program director Victoria Wangia, PhD. "This has increased the demand for skilled professionals who can balance the relationship between information technology, systems, and healthcare. Through the Masters in Health Informatics Program, we will develop the next generation of leaders whose skills and knowledge will make a difference in the function of health systems and delivery of health care.
Wangia says health informatics draws students from various academic backgrounds, including health professionals from all fields and individuals in information services, computer science, health policy and business.
UCs outcome-focused curriculum is built around competencies outlined by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM), covering informatics and related health policy, project management, leadership, data analytics and business intelligence.
The program also includes a project and program management course that is aligned with the standards of the Project Management Institute (PMI), allowing students to gain the knowledge needed to pursue the Project Management Professional (PMP) credential.
