Tile Removal Will Bar Access to Some Areas on Levels 2 and G

Workers will be removing floor tile on corridors in Levels 2 and G of the Medical Sciences Building (MSB) beginning Friday night, Aug. 2, to prepare for installation of temporary construction barricades for Phase IV of the MSB Rehabilitation project. This work will continue into next week, making a portion of the MSB’s main corridor inaccessible for most of the week. Detours will be posted.

Work will be performed inside plastic containment with an exhaust system to keep dust to a minimum. There will be localized noise but no hammer drilling. All work, including work done during the week, will be done during evening hours.

Here is the schedule:

• Friday night, Aug. 2 (Level 2): Tile removal will begin at 8 p.m. at the south end (toward UC Medical Center) of the MSB’s main corridor, and extend north (toward Albert Sabin Way) for about 30 feet. Stair B will not be accessible. In order to access UC Medical Center, it will be necessary to descend to Level 1 via elevator or other stairways. This work is expected to be completed by 6 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 4.

• Friday night, Aug. 2 (Level G): Tile removal will begin at 8 p.m. at the double doors leading to Eden Garage and UC Medical Center (the south end of the corridor), and extend north about 30 feet. In order to access Eden Garage and UC Medical Center, it will be necessary to descend to Level E or ascend to Level 1. This work is expected to be completed by 6 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 4.

• Monday night, Aug. 5, through Friday morning, Aug. 9 (Level 2): Tile removal in the MSB’s main corridor will begin at 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, and continue through 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9. The main corridor will be inaccessible during that time from a point near Suite 2501 to the east/west corridor between Room 2350 and Classroom 2351. That corridor will be open, as will all other east/west corridors and the north/south corridor on the east side of Level G, adjacent to the Cardiovascular Research Center. Detour signs will be posted.

• Monday night, Aug. 5, through Friday morning, Aug. 9 (Level G): Tile removal in the MSB’s main corridor will begin at 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, and continue through 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9. The main corridor will be inaccessible during that time from a point near the restrooms G587 and G588 to the east/west corridor at Room G-351 (student lounge). That corridor will be open, as will all other east/west corridors and the north/south corridor on the east side of Level G and, adjacent to the Cardiovascular Research Center. In addition, access will be available through the open spaces to the west of the main corridor. Detour signs will be posted.

Phase IV of the MSB Rehabilitation Project involves the south half of the MSB (Levels E-7 in the southeast quadrant and Levels 3-7 in the southwest quadrant).
