Repairs to CARE/Crawley Grand Staircase Back on Track

Repairs to sections of the CARE/Crawley Building’s Grand Staircase—the exterior steps leading from Eden Avenue to the main entrance—are back on track after a delay and are scheduled to be completed by Christmas, weather permitting.

Under the revised repair schedule, work is scheduled to resume Dec. 13 when the foundation for new granite steps will be poured and all concrete preliminary work will be done. In the following days, workers will set the new steps in the affected area.

The preliminary work will involve placing equipment in the MSB loading dock that will pump the concrete up to the work area. The stairs and main entry will remain open for safe, passable access to the CARE/Crawley Building.

Work hours will generally conform with regular operational hours, starting at approximately 7 a.m. on weekdays and continuing until approximately 4 p.m.

Repairs to the Grand Staircase were begun in June and were originally scheduled to be completed by the end of August. However, work was halted when discrepancies between construction documents and actual work were discovered. Officials with the Office of Planning + Design + Construction are working with the original contractor as required by State of Ohio construction compliance. Those discussions will have no impact on completion of the current repair project.
