Giffin Appointed Interim Associate Dean for Medical Education

Bruce Giffin, PhD, has been appointed interim associate dean for medical education.

A professor in the department of medical education, Giffin fills the position left vacant by the recent departure of Anne Gunderson, EdD, who accepted a new position at Georgetown University.

In this role Giffin will provide leadership and facilitate the ongoing development and implementation of the newly reformed undergraduate medical curriculum while addressing all operational matters for continued accreditation of our medical education curriculum with the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.

Additionally, he will hire block co-directors, evaluate co-directors on their performance, work with the M1, M2 and M3-4 curriculum committees and work with committee chairs to see that there is a vertical and horizontal integration of curriculum. Finally, he will implement our new curriculum management database (LCMS+).

Giffin, who received the 2012 Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges, will continue his gross anatomy teaching responsibilities in addition to serving as vice chair of medical education and directing the UC Body Donation Program.

"Dr. Giffin’s superb knowledge of this effort and his long history with the college will ensure that this work will remain on track," said Andrew Filak Jr., MD, senior associate dean for academic affairs, in a memo. "I am very pleased that he has agreed to take on these important additional responsibilities on an interim basis."
