HEALTH LINE: Mammograms and Manicures Event Promotes Preventive Screening
Cincinnati - For women 40 and older, mammograms are recommended every year to detect potential cancers at the earliest possible moment.
"Yearly mammograms are an important preventive care measure to detect cancer in its earliest stages, says Tywauna Hardy, director of mobile diagnostics for UC Health.
In order to bring awareness to this important screening measure, the UC Health Mobile Diagnostics Van is partnering with the Salon Professional Academy to host the Mammograms and Manicures event, providing vouchers for a free manicure to all women who receive a mammogram on the van between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2014.
The van, which will be located outside of the academy, 3330 Parkcrest Lane off Glenway Ave. in Western Hills, is equipped with tomosynthesis technology, 3-D mammography which allows experts to image breast tissue in one-millimeter slices and provides greater visibility of the breast tissue, increasing accuracy and decreasing the need to call patients back for extra imaging.
The diagnostics van is the only one of its kind in the region and one of six in the nation; it has been providing services in the Tristate for seven months.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for Tristate women to get their annual mammogram, which is recommended for women age 40 years and older, and to get a little pampering as well, adds Hardy.
"We want women to bring their moms, sisters or best gal pals and show their love and support this Valentines Day.
The manicure voucher can be redeemed on the day of the mammogram or at a later date. Goodie bags and refreshments will also be available for participants.
Mammogram appointments are requested. To schedule, call 513-585-VANN (8266), Option 1. The van accepts most insurance; if you need financial assistance, call 513-584-7873.
For women of all ages, wellness exams are important for not only breast health but also general best health practices; self breast exams are also important. If you notice a lump, a change in the feel or look of your breast or nipple or any discharge, see your doctor immediately.
To schedule an appointment with a member of the breast imaging team, call 513-584-5335.
