Deka Delivers Memorial Lecture at Meeting in India
Ranjan Deka, PhD, Department of Environmental Health, delivered an invited memorial lecture at the Indian National Confederation and Academy of Anthropologists Indian Anthropological Congress in February at Dibrugarh University in Dibrugarh, India.
The lecture, "Mapping Complex Traits in an Adriatic Population: Anthropology Laid the Foundation, was in honor of the late Professor Bhuban M. Das, who was Dekas PhD advisor and mentor during his studies at Dibrugarh University. The meeting was attended by over 300 anthropologists and scholars. Deka was awarded a memorial plaque recognizing his contributions to the field of anthropology.
Deka, a professor in the division of epidemiology and biostatistics, is a molecular population geneticist whose primary research interest is in the genetics of complex diseases.
