Reponen Initiated as New Member of ISIAQ Academy of Fellows

Tiina Reponen, PhD, a professor in the UC Department of Environmental Health, has been initiated as a new member of the ISIAQ (International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate) Academy of Fellows.

The Academy is an international, multidisciplinary, scientific honorary organization established to promote scholarship for indoor environmental and building sciences. Membership is by invitation, following a nomination and election procedure. Reponen was initiated July 7 at the Indoor Air 2014 conference in Hong Kong.

Reponen is the director of the University of Cincinnati Education and Research Center, which is funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and housed in the UC Department of Environmental Health. She teaches in the Environmental and Occupational Health graduate program. 

Her research is focused on the exposure assessment of bioaerosols in indoor and industrial environments, including physical and microbiological characterization of airborne actinomycete and fungal spores, the dispersion of bioaerosols under natural and laboratory conditions, and the control of airborne microorganisms by filtration.

Reponen is currently directing two cohort studies. One is focused on the association between indoor bioaerosol exposures and the development of children’s allergy and asthma, and the other is focused on the effects of green renovation on indoor air quality and occupants’ health.

She is a recipient of Finland Distinguished Professor award.
