Symposium Showcases Occupational Health and Safety Research

Scientists will discuss the latest occupational and environmental health research at the University of Cincinnati (UC) Education and Research Center’s 15th annual Pilot Research Project (PRP) Symposium Thursday, Oct. 9, and Friday, Oct. 10, 2014.

The symposium is free and open to public and will take place in the Vontz Center's Rieveschl Auditorium on the University of Cincinnati medical campus.

Led by Amit Bhattacharya, PhD, professor of environmental health, the Pilot Project Research Training Program is a part of the Education and Research Center in the Department of Environmental Health and seeks to increase the Tristate’s research capacity through collaboration with 12 universities and colleges.

The program aims to increase the research capacity of trainees and young investigators in occupational health and safety and offers financial support to doctoral students and junior faculty with promising research ideas. An additional aim is to encourage those in related disciplines at collaborating universities throughout the region to pursue occupational health and safety research. 

During the conference, the previous year’s research award winners will present their results and 2014-2015 award winners will display poster presentations of their proposed work. 

Jacqueline Moline, MD, vice president of population health and founding chair of population health of the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, will speak on the topic of "The World Trade Center Disaster and its Aftermath” during a keynote address at 1 p.m. Oct. 9.  

Marvin Dainoff, PhD, director of the Center for Behavioral Sciences at 

Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety, will give the keynote address at 8 a.m. Oct. 10 on "Safety Climate and the Lone Worker: Review of Research.”
