UC Tweets Stand Out in Global Pharmacist Tweet-A-Thon

First-year PharmD student Nikita Nambiar has tweeted almost 7,000 times since she opened her Twitter account in 2011, so she was pretty primed to help UC’s James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy rock the Global Pharmacist Tweet-A-Thon on October 2 …and she did.

Using the required hashtag (#Pharmacist), Nambiar tweeted a photo of M&Ms in a prescription bottle that she is required to take as part of the college’s skills lab course so she can better understand the challenges in taking "medication”.  By 5 p.m., her tweet had made the "Pharmacy Times” list of the most popular worldwide out of 8,000 tweets.

Dean Neil MacKinnon, PhD, who is quite the Twitter user himself, ranked 7th in the top 10 "#pharmacist” mentions globally by the end of the day.

"The event is a great way to connect with pharmacists from across the globe. Many of our students, faculty and alumni participated in the event and it was great to see their tweets about our college and the profession retweeted by pharmacists in Ireland, Australia and in other locations worldwide.”

This was the second year for the Pharmacist Tweet-A-Thon, the first of which generated 7,000 tweets Oct. 3, 2013.   Many American and international pharmacy organizations participated in the event.
