Results Are In for Match Day 2015
The long wait is over for a smiling Madhav Chopra.
The fourth-year medical student at UC College of Medicine learned Friday afternoon, March 20, 2015, that he will spend the next three years of his residency training in internal medicine at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
"The weather is great and I really like the program, said Chopra, who was among the throngs of med students who crowded into a lecture hall in the Medical Sciences Building.
Banner Good Samaritan was among his favored picks. "I would have been happy with any of my top choices, said Chopra.
Fourth-year medical students at the UC College of Medicine and at medical schools around the country learned today where they'll spend the next several years in residency training.
It was all part of Match Day, an annual event managed by the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP), which pairs the preference of medical student with those of residency programs to create optimal matches.
Results from UC indicate that:
- Of the 159 matched students, 51 (32 percent) will stay in Ohio for their primary residencies.
- Of those, 16 will complete all or a portion of their residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and 5 will complete pediatric residency at Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center.
- The most popular residencies for UC students were internal medicine with 21 matched students, family medicine (14) and pediatrics (14).

"You are always worried until you get that envelope, said Chopra after the Match Day celebration.
His mother, Rashmi Chopra, noted that "worried was an understatement for her son. "He was tense, he was stressed out and he was nervous, she noted. "He talked about that program (in Phoenix) so I knew this was on his wish list. Its come true and its a great relief.
