Gold Humanism Honor Society Inducts 25 New Students

The College of Medicine chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society inducted 25 new members into its ranks Wednesday, May 6, 2015, and recognized eight others with awards for humanism in teaching and medicine. 

The event was held at the UC Faculty Club Richard E. Lindner Center. Laura Malosh, PhD, assistant dean for academic support in the college’s office of student affairs and Gold Humanism Honor Society chapter advisor, welcomed the largest class of honor society members since the chapter’s inception in 2008.

Medical students inducted into the honor society are: Victoria Adegboye, Katie Baughman, Candice Carpenter, Ashley Cattran, Grant Comstock, Mark Costello, Rebecca Currier, Zachary DeVore, Kristina Gaietto, Rahul Handa, Craig Hansen, Elizabeth Hathaway, Kevin Janek, Jeremy Kearns, Justin King, Josie Maione, Tricia Minton, Srinidhi Reddy, Sara Sadat-Hossieny, Marguerite Schneider, Anna Scott, Aaron Smith, Susan Williams, Samantha Wu and Richard Yeager.

The college also awarded six residents with Humanism & Excellence in Teaching Awards. The awards were presented by Amy Bunger, PhD, assistant designated institutional officer. Resident awardees included: Margaret Beaudrot, MD, obstetrics & gynecology; Hannah Galey, MD, obstetrics & gynecology, Katherine Glass, MD, pediatrics/psychiatry and child psychiatry; Michael Sabbah, MD, internal medicine; Megan Stevenson, MD, surgery and Gregory Wilson, MD, surgery.

Recipients of the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award were recognized. Philip Diller, MD, PhD, Fred Lazarus Jr. Professor and Chair, Department of Family and Community Medicine, and fourth-year medical student Leslie Applegate will be presented the award officially on Honors Day in the College of Medicine. The Tow award recognizes individuals who emphasize humanism in the delivery of care to patients and their families.
