Office of Graduate Education Hosts Graduate Student Research Forum
The Office of Graduate Education hosted its 37th annual Graduate Student Research Forum on Monday, November 21, 2016. The forum brings students from across the range of graduate research programs in the College of Medicine to participate in poster presentations.
Each graduate student poster was scored by two different non-affiliated judges and the scores were combined to determine the top presenters. First-place honors went to Hannah Flood, Cancer and Cell Biology, while a second-place award went to Ritama Paul, Cancer and Cell biology, and third-place honors went to Gabriel Gracia-Maldonado in Pathobiology and Molecular Medicine.
Honorable mentions were awarded to the following students: Mark Althoff, Cancer and Cell Biology; Angela White, Molecular and Developmental biology; Markaisa Black, Molecular and Developmental Biology, Sandra Zoubovsky, Molecular and Developmental biology, and Kobina Essandoh, Molecular, Cellular and Biochemical Pharmacology.
Stanley Hazen, MD, PhD, from the Cleveland Clinic was the keynote speaker at a well-attended seminar following the judging session. The title of his presentation was "Gut Microbes & Cardiometabolic Diseases. David Askew, PhD, professor of pathobiology and molecular medicine, received the Richard Akeson Excellence in Teaching Award, an annual award presented by the Health Sciences Graduate Association.
