Mahoney Serves as Leader for All Major National Radiological Societies

Despite her numerous accomplishments, Mary Mahoney, MD, Benjamin Felson Endowed Chair and Professor in the Department of Radiology, is not one to pat herself on the back.

Mahoney has served on the Board of Governors for the American Board of Radiology (ABR) for the last seven years and the Board of Directors for the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) for three years. Having just been named to the Board of Chancellors for the American College of Radiology (ACR), she says she is now the only individual who serves on the leadership boards for all three major radiological societies in the U.S. Even Mahoney admits that it’s "a big achievement.”

Mahoney says that each organization serves a slightly different role within the field of radiology.

"The ABR has a strong focus on training requirements and certification, the RSNA emphasizes education and research, and the ACR focuses primarily on policy and guidelines,” she says. "This is a great way for me to have a part in the decision making that comes from each of the three respective organizations and each of their areas of focus within radiology.”

Members of all three boards must be nominated by their peers.

"I’m thrilled to take on this new role,” Mahoney says. "This will give me even greater perspective and help me look at radiology from an all-encompassing standpoint. It is a terrific opportunity.”
