PharmD Candidate Class of 2019

On February 13, 2018, the University of Cincinnati and Ohio State University joined forces to host Bearcat and Buckeye Day at the statehouse in Columbus, Ohio. The purpose of this event was for students, administration, and alumni from both public universities to advocate on behalf of state funding for higher education and encourage Ohio legislators to co-sponsor and vote in favor of the capital budget bill. Throughout the day, participants held meetings with members of the Ohio House of Representatives and the Ohio Senate to reinforce the importance of receiving a higher education and the impact that proper funding can have on our access to a quality education in this state.

Seventeen students from the University of Cincinnati James L. Winkle College Of Pharmacy were present at the event and were able to provide a unique perspective, as our college has seen the benefits of the previous campaign in support of higher education through the funding for our new building renovations. In their meetings with legislators, pharmacy students stressed the impact that our college’s new facilities have had on providing us the opportunity to gain the experience we will need in caring for our patients. Students also shared their personal stories, showing that the desire and motivation for receiving higher education can come from many backgrounds. Overall, everyone involved in the event was present to stress the significance their education and experience from each university has had on their lives and ask that Ohio continue provide these opportunities.
